Rammstein: A Bio
69Rammstein. Is that a type of food? What is "Rammstein"?
This is Rammstein
Rammstein is German rock group. Their music can be described as Neue Deutsche Härte ("new German hardness"). To some people, it is a pointless group that just make a lot of noise. To others, it is another band with meaning in the lyrics and related to life.
Who's In Rammstein?
Rammstein was formed by Richard Kruspe and consists of him as a lead guitarist and back up vocalist; Till Lindemann as a main vocalist; Paul Landers, a guitarist, Christoph Schneinder is the drummer, Oliver Riedel is the bassist and Christian Lorenz as the keyboardist. These six men have been composing music for Rammstein for over 15 years.
Where Did The Name Originate?
Even though the majority of their songs are composed in German, Rammstein has had world wide success; releasing their sixth album in October 2009. The band took their name indirectly from the German town of Ramstein-Miesenbach, the site of the flight show disaster on 28 August 1988. The literal meaning of Rammstein is ramming (Ramm) stone (stein).
Albums, DVDs and Concerts
Their first album was released and titled Herzeleid, which mean heartache and could be seen an album filled with emotion. Sehnsucht (longing) was released in a period where most of the band members were having relationship problems and thus this was reflected on that album. Rammstein's first concert "Live Aus Berlin" was performed in 1998 and attracted over 17 000 fans. World wide success had only just begun.
Mutter (Mother) was released in 2001 and Rammstein flew to Prague to hold a concert for the beginning of a movie starring Vin Diesel called xXx. Lichtspielhaus (Light House/Opera House) was a compliation of music videos, clips of live concerts and contained "The Making Of.." some of their videos. The fourth album, Reise Reise (Arise Arise) was released in September 2004 and one of the songs title "Mein Teil" (My Part) was related to the cannibalism case in Germany the previous year.
October 2005 saw the release of Rosenrot (Rose Red), followed by yet another concert captured on DVD titled "Völkerball" (Dodge ball) in November 2006. The band took a break after the concert and started working on another album in 2007. October 2009 brought the release of Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (Love Is For Everyone), shortly before their next concert which is to be held in December 2009.
Trivial information about Rammstein
Oliver Riedel commented that, "German language suits heavy metal music. French might be the language of love, but German is the language of anger". There have been a few songs done in both German and English namely Du Hast, Engel and Amerika amongst others. Till Lindemann's voice is both poetic and soft in ballads while full of emotion in other songs. Most of the guitar solo's are done by Richard Kruspe.
According to rumors, Till Lindemann plans to retire when he reaches fifty years old so that he can spend time with his family. Until then, may Rammstein live long and produce may more exciting albums! I am a huge fan myself and a collector of their music so therefore I can say that every album and every DVD is certainly worth it. How would i know? Because i own every album and every DVD myself.
