Twilight: So What's The Big Deal?

Stephanie Meyer. That name rings a bell. Ah yes, the women who wrote The Host. But let's not forget that she is also the author of the Twilight saga. Twilight, New Moon, Ecilpse and Breaking Dawn all have one thing in common. Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.
Twilight, the first book, was an easy read. The main plot is about Bella and Edward. Nothing exciting. In fact, if you take out the soppy love scenes, you'd barely have fifty pages left. I am a big fan of vampires. Mythological creatures described as an immortal afraid of garlic and stakes, turned to ashes in sunlight and pale, reflectionless figures. These are the vampires i knew. Then along came Stephanie Meyer and her vampires. Vampires that sparkle in the sun? Come on, what's next? A vampire having babies?! (Which does happen...)
New Moon is soon to be released on circuit and the book is more intensely interesting than Twilight. After all, Bella and Jacob DO make a better pair than ol' Bella and Edward. Fangboy leaves Bella to fend for herself (being the kluz she already is) and Bella falls for Jacob. Now why couldn't they just get married and head off into the sunset? Then ol' Fangboy returns and Bella crushes poor Jacob's hopes.
Ecilipse... Now that was a boring one like Twilight. Nothing interesting to see hear folks.. moving on.
Breaking Dawn. Bella and Edward have their first child. What an insane idea. First of all, the vampires are dead and their hearts are cold; so where did this child come from? And then there's the fight... I thought the 'epic' battle scene was gonna be.. well, epic. I was in for a disappointment. Instead of vampire ripping up other vampires, they talked out the whole problem and poof! solved.
As you can see, i am not a fan of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga. The books are easily to read even for a pre teen. I had a 10 year old read the saga last week and she said that she couldn't see what the fuss what about. So i lent her my collection of Anne Rice, and boy was she stoked! She couldn't stop raving about the books. Lestat de Lioncourt is more of a real character than Edward Cullen will ever be. But i bet that a lot of people out there love Twilight and will now slander my hub. That's okay; each to his own.
If you want a proper read, i suggest the Anne Rice books of vampires.

I suppose you're right Sab, but then again, each person has their own preference and i was disappointed by Stephanie Meyer's books yet L.J Smith's saga was brilliant.
I too loved the Anne Rice series. One of my favourite books though-I must admit was the saddest vampire in the world- Interview with a vampire. And I loved Kirsten Dunst in that movie too along with brad pitt and tom cruise. :)

Sure the Anne Rice books of vampires are great but still the great thing about reading storys about Vampires is that every story has its own story, character etc. And I do understand that there are some who don´t like Twilight and there are some who do. So whats the fuss about those who read it or not?
Sorry but it sounds as if Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga broke a great rule about Vampire storys, she has not and its everyones choice whats good or not, so there is no need (no need for me) to fight about it. I am not comparing Anne Rice with Stephanie Meyer but they are great Authors and I love both of them, no matter what they write about.

The books are certainly no Anne Rice, but I enjoy the twist that Stephanie Meyer put on Vampire mythology; they can go out in sunlight, even if they do sparkle, garlic and silver do not affect them, etc., etc. I suppose it is a more realistic approach to the vampire mythology if vampires were to exist in real life. If they do exist, it is an easier pill to sallow if they had what Stephanie Meyer created, as opposed to what is traditionally done with Vampire mythology.
